nearly 40 bodies have been pulled from the water near the site where an air asia plane disappeared just a few days ago. >> people are still taking notice months after mo'ne davis' magical run in the little league world series. hear about her latest big honor. >> good morning it's 5:30 on this tuesday december 30th. let's head over to meteorologist, david murphy and matt pelman who is in for karen. good morning. >> good morning guys. we're off to a somewhat cloudy start across the region although there are some breaks to the north and i expect to see some clouds and sun mixing in like yesterday. there's also a couple light sprinkles and maybe even a snowflake in southern delaware and extreme south jersey this morning. that won't last all that long. my twitter follower king byron in egg harbor township new jersey reports 33 degrees this morning and that's pretty much par for the course. a lot of us in the 30's. 33 degrees in philadelphia as well, 36 at the boardwalk in atlantic city, 34 in millville, 34 in wilmington and in the northern and western suburbs from the lehigh valley through berks county and lancaster county we're in the upper 20's. also there's a bit of a breeze so it feels like it's in the 20's. all of these numbers i'm

showing you indicating much cooler conditions than what we had the last couple mornings so do bundle up. on your smartphone on the train station platform this morning we're looking at 33 degrees on your storm tracker 6 app. 34 degrees by 8 o'clock and then by noon 36 and 3 o'clock is going to be that high today, 39 degrees so yesterday we were in the 40's from start to finish. today in the 30's. getting a little bit colder for new year's eve matt. i'll have details on that coming up in the seven day. >> king byron of egg harbor city hm. >> that's right. >> all right. well for all the royalty. 309 is shut down in both directions because of atoned pole and wires from a truck accident overnight. all blocked off between toll gate road there by the rite-aid and the wawa and station road to the north. so old bethlehem pike a little bit to the east would be an option or trumbauersville road would be another option

elsewhere on route wip this is the roosevelt boulevard extension in east falls looking good this morning as you head northbound you can exit for roberts avenue again. the downed pole that was blocking the off ramp from the boulevard northbound has been cleared out. so everything reopened there and all the overnight construction here on 42 northbound headed towards 295 is gone. also the work zone on 295 northbound by 42 has cleared as well and apparently now it's very dark. matt. >> indeed it is. thank you matt. developing right now hotels near philadelphia international airport are on high alert. they have seen eight holdups in less than two weeks and the latest one happened overnight. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at the extended stay in tinicum township delaware county with details. katherine. >> reporter: matt, police had already stepped up patrols in this area due to the recent robberies. prior to this police connector the same man to seven robberies and they're now investigating to see if he's behind this eighth one that took place at this extended stay america here in tinicum

township. the suspect was armed last night, wearing a mask. there's no word yet on what was taken: just before 11:30 last night police in tinicum township were called to this extended stay america on the 9000 block of tinicum boulevard. police are investigating to see if this latest robbery at gunpoint is kicked -- connected to seven recent cases most near the airport and allegedly orchestrated by the same man caught on multiple hotel surveillance cameras. >> he jumps over the counters in some of them. he clearly intimidates these people. he's tall, he's got the gun. >> reporter: from december 20 to the 23rd police believe this man is behind at least a half dozen robberies and one attempted robbery. last tuesday afternoon he hit this north american motor inn on city avenue. general manager diamond burr well describes how he grabbed a chair and hit the suspect with it. he chased the suspect who hopped a fence then turned around and fired two shots

missing burr well. he says the suspect can only keep this up for so long. >> it's only a matter of time before they get him. can't get away with it forever. >> reporter: no injuries have been reported in any of these robberies. this investigation is under way. call police if you have any tips. we're live in tinicum township, katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> okay, thank you katherine. the serial bank bandit lab on a spree for the past three weeks has struck once again. the fbi says his latest target was in bryn mawr at the wells fargo on the 1200 block of east lancaster avenue yesterday morning. this would make it the eighth holdup this month with the bandit getting away with cash in six of these cases. >> based on the number of banks in such a short period of time, we think he's a fairly desperate individual and any time you have that level of desperation we're concerned about a potential move to violence or an increase in the violent activity. >> investigators say though the robber has not displayed a weapon he does pass tellers a

threatening demand note in each of the robberies. in almost all of the holdups he's been seen wearing large prescription eyeglasses and has not made much of an attempt to hide his identity. the fbi is asking anyone who knows who this is to provide a tip to them or to philadelphia police. a pursuit in delaware county end fled a fiery crash. police claim the victim was trying to outrun the law. police are still trying to identify the driver involved in the deadly chase. it all began on chester pike in folcroft yesterday afternoon and came to a deadly end a mile down the road right in front of the glenolden firehouse. officers were trying to conduct an ordinary traffic stop when the driver of a white altima took off. the altima ultimately crashed into another car killing the fleeing driver. the bystander driver is still critical at crozer chester medical center. >> 5:35. here the latest developments in the search for air asia flight 8501. they continue to find more bodies and more debris right off the coast of the island of

borneo in the java sea. now, the plane took off from this part of indonesia and was heading to singapore and sometime on sunday morning the last contact was made in that area and that is where they are finding these bodies and the debris so the families of those who were on the plane are now realizing their worst fears. this is brand new video this morning of rescue crews being lowered from a helicopter into the water to retrieve debris. that debris is believed to be from the air asia flight. the u.s.s. samson is on its way to the java sea as well. the plane was carrying 162 people when it vanished two days ago. a helicopter crew spotted six bodies floating in the waters within the search area today. 100 miles from lands and 6 miles from the plane's last coordinates. they have since recovered 40 bodies. grieving families must now deal with their worst fears while others have very different feelings. >> supposed to be on that

flight. >> search teams will also try to recover the black boxes. the battery life lasts about 30 days. >> a vigil is scheduled this evening for the elderly couple killed in a fast moving fire in berks county. the husband and wife pedro morales and evelyn vega died. both victims had been diagnosed with almost heim. a son had been called to the home after his sister smelled smoke but he found nothing wrong. investigators are now checking the scene. the cause of the fire is still unknown. also happening today at a a new york man charged in connection with a horrific crash that killed three teenagers from bucks county will appear in court. the three teens were students at council rock high school south. they were killed when their car collided with another vehicle on goose pond road in paupack township wayne county. 53-year-old michael ware is accused of giving his 15-year-old daughter the keys to his vehicle even though she did not have a driver's license. ware has been charged with a

number of offenses including involuntary manslaughter. >> we're not going the warm up all that much today like yesterday. >> no, we are down and going even lower tomorrow, too just in time for new year's eve. storm tracker 6 live double scan this morning shows us that the vast majority of the region is dry. down south we have some continuation of yesterday's little sprinkles and showers that we had yesterday morning and it's colder this morning so you can see that as you get up and weigh from the ocean front we get a changeover to a little bit of light snow. this is mostly just flurries or very light snow shower around dover. looks like a little thicker batch heading down towards milford. most that of probably just changes to rain as it heads out into the delaware bay. as we take a look outside we have sky 6 is the airport and we're fairly cloudy to start out. over all we're expecting a mix of clouds and sun today. temperatures definitely colder though. 33 degrees right now in the city. dewpoint 20. winds out of the northeast at 10 miles per hour. and your wind chills are making it feel like it's in the mid-20's. satellite and radar shows you that we do have that cloud

cover entrenched across the region but there are some breaks and overall we do expect a mix of clouds and sun as we roll through the day. temperatures are going to stay cold though. yesterday we were in the 40's from start to finish. today we won't break out of the 30's. 34 at 8 o'clock in philadelphia, 35 at 11 o'clock. really struggling to increase that number through the morning hours. and then 38 by 2 o'clock with a high of 39 around 3 o'clock before we fall back to 37 by 5 o'clock. high temperatures across the region a little cooler up north which is often the case. 36 degrees in allentown, 37 will be your high in reading. 38 degrees in lancaster. and then closer to 40 as we get down to the shore and down toward dover delaware. a bit on the brisk side today. and then high pressure is still out to our west tomorrow and as we enter new year's eve, we'll continue to see that northerly flow that's going to continue to draw colder air into play. so, today getting up close to 40. tomorrow the mid 30's for a high. and chillier than that as we head out for new year's eve celebrations. in fact, for new year's eve at 6 o'clock 31 degrees. if you're out and about and at midnight in philadelphia,

28 degrees and a wind chill near 20. if you're going to be down penn's landing enjoying the fireworks you definitely want a coat extra layers and probably hat and gloves as well. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, we're going for a high of 39 today, colder than yesterday. a mix of clouds and sun. tomorrow clouds and sun 35 degrees is the high on new year's, brisk and cold with wind chills in the teens in the morning 20's in the afternoon and staying with wind chills in the 20's at night. and then sunny and brisk on new year's day. it will be a good looking day but a cold high of 39 december and if you're headed down to the mummers parade, again coats, hats, gloves, scarves all that good stuff because there will be a breeze blowing and temperatures only about the freezing mark as the parade gets going. sun and clouds then on friday, 42 degrees. on saturday mostly cloudy 42. and there's the chance of some rain arriving late in the day or at night. at the outset if it comes in at night it might actually start out with a little bit of a light wintry mix in philadelphia and the northern suburbs that could create brief slippery road conditions before a changeover to rain. again, that is late saturday

traffic jam. luckily we don't have too many out there so far this morning. this is 202 mark lee street as you head into norristown. northbound come the headlights coming off the danne hower bridge heading into norristown. markley at main is the intersection and traffic is moving fine. a couple other issues to watch out for here in horsham getting word of police activity on jasper drive near lower state road. no issues so far this morning on the pennsylvania turnpike, speeds in the mid 60's there as you pass willow grove with no overnight construction. but 309 is still shut down in richland township so this is a good spot to avoid between tollgate and station roads. it's downed wires from an overnight crash involving a tractor-trailer that's causing the closure. maybe stay over on old bethlehem pike or even trumbauersville road as some possible alternates. if you're out and about in delaware so far this morning no major issues. of course we've got that ongoing construction that continues to close the ramp from the northbound side of 95 to 896 northbound. should be back opened by mid january when the u of d students head back to class. for now the ramp to the

southbound side of 896 is still opened so you can use that and then flip around. time for the commuter report brought to you by the waze app. in burlington county no problems reported along 295 new jersey turnpike, 541 looks good. hey, there's somebody that's a member of our 6abc "action news" commuter team which you too, can be when you download the waze app. tam. >> okay, thank you matt. new this morning a healthcare worker who was diagnosed with ebola after returning to scotland from sierra leone is being transferred to app specialist treatment center in london. scottish officials confirm the case yesterday. they say the patient is a healthcare worker who was helping to combat the disease in west africa. since an ebola out break began last year there have been more than 7500 deaths most in liberia guinea and sierra leone. >> the lapd on high alert after a gunman fired at police. it happened early yesterday morning. one person has been arrested, a second person remains at large. the two officers who were inside a patrol car were not

injured and one managed to fire back. no one was hit. police have not revealed a motive but they say there is no indication the attack is linked to the police ambush in left two nypd officers dead. from our delaware news room a canine with new castle county police was wounded in a dog fight. this happened in a wooded area new the unit block of edgemoor road in edgemoor yesterday afternoon. police had been checking on homeless people in the woods and one of their dogs attacked the police canine. the new castle county officer intervened opening fire on the attacking dogs. authorities have not disclosed the condition of either animal >> high ranking republican under fire for possible tights to white supremacist. steve scalise spoke. he didn't know the kkk was involved even though duke's

jackpot. a short time later his family says he disappeared along with his cadillac deville and his pun pea. police say they found no forced entry into the home. loved ones believe it looks like someone ransacked kneel's house after he disappeared. his family says it is not like him to drop out of contact. also new a australian search crews continue to hunt for a great white shark that killed a 17-year-old. the teen was spearfishing at chain's beach when he was attacked. the shark then turned on his friends who was able to fire his spear gun into the mouth of the shark. local fishermen have also placed bait drum lines in the area hoping to catch the shark. >> new here on "action news" a brazen thief tried to dig for cash at a north carolina atm. these are the latest images captured by a surveillance camera before police say a backhoe ripped it apart. witnesses say they could hear the rumble of the heavy equipment heading down the street. then they saw the backhoe tear into the atm but the cash grab

was foiled. there was no money inside. authorities later recovered the stolen backhoe. they're hoping cameras captured the driver as he jumped out and fled. >> ♪♪
